Professional Statement

Dr. Yvonne Chu is Professor of Ophthalmology at the Cullen Eye Institute and ÌÇÐÄÊÓÆµ of Medicine. She graduated with honors (Magna Cum Laude) and obtained B.A. in Biology from Texas A&M University in College Station, and later completed B.A. degree in Spanish from The University of Texas in Austin. In 1995, Dr. Chu started medical school at ÌÇÐÄÊÓÆµ of Medicine and went on to complete Ophthalmology Residency at ÌÇÐÄÊÓÆµ of Medicine. In July 2003, Dr. Chu joined the Baylor Faculty and continued her studies at Rice University, Jesse Jones Graduate School of Business graduating in May 2005 with Master of Business Administration degree. She completed sub-specialty training in Glaucoma at the Devers Eye Institute and Casey Eye Institute of Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon in 2011. Dr. Yvonne Chu is the Deputy Eye Care Line Executive and cares for patients at the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Administration Medical Center (MEDVAMC). Prior to joining the MEDVAMC, Dr. Chu was Chief of Ophthalmology at Ben Taub Hospital and Medical Director of Eye Care Services at Baylor Affiliated Community Health Center Eye Services at Harris Health System overseeing 4 outlying Optometry Clinics and 13 tele-retina diabetic retinopathy sites. Dr. Chu’s clinical interests include medical and surgical treatment for glaucoma in adults, and cataract surgery combined with glaucoma interventions including minimally invasive glaucoma surgery such as Hydrus microstent, iStent trabecular bypass, Xen gel implants, and ab-interno goniotomy. She has special interest in teaching and has been twice recognized with the Dan B. Jones Teaching Award for excellence in resident education.
