Professional Statement

Yaxin Wang Payne, PhD's research interests center on the development of left ventricular assist devices (LVADs), with a particular focus on in vitro hemodynamic evaluation and drive system design for axial-flow blood pumps. Additionally, Wang is engaged in advancing ex vivo organ preservation systems for donor lungs. In collaboration with Drs. O. H. Frazier and Nobuyuki Kurita, Wang has secured over $10 million in government grants to support research into next-generation LVAD designs. Working alongside clinical and research partners Drs. Gabriel Loor and Chris Chan, Wang is developing a novel physiologic ex vivo lung perfusion (EVLP) system aimed at enabling long-term preservation and reconditioning of extended-criteria donor organs.

Under Wang’s leadership, the IDEA Lab has expanded its research scope in recent years to include pediatric blood pumps, centrifugal LVADs, Fontan assist devices, and advanced ex vivo organ preservation systems.
