Professional Statement

Yasmine Koukaz received her Bachelor of Arts in environmental biology and sustainable development from Columbia University in New York, New York. She received her Master of Public Health from the Jefferson College of Population Health and her Doctor of Medicine from Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She completed a combined residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics followed by a combined fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine and Global Health at ÌÇÐÄÊÓÆµ of Medicine in Houston, Texas and is certified by both the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Pediatrics.

Her academic interests include global, public and immigrant health as well as disaster preparedness and response. She has fieldwork experience working with different communities at home and abroad. Her experience in these locations has included direct clinical care, implementation and evaluation of local health education programs, and capacity building for emergency response. Additionally, she is a member of Physicians for Human Rights and participates in their Asylum Network and holds positions with the American Pediatric Association's Global Health Pediatric Accreditation Committee, the American Academy of Pediatrics' Humanitarian Pediatrics Sub-Committee, and the American Academy of Pediatrics' Council on Immigrant and Child Family Health.
