Professional Statement

My vision for pediatric radiology:
Clinically integrated, child and family centered diagnostic imaging taking full advantage of the newest advanced and objective imaging techniques following the principles of precision radiology. No 鈥渆ye-balling of films鈥 but an evidence based imaging approach in which objective imaging scalars facilitate diagnosis and help to monitor and evaluate treatment options/success. Radiology should take the lead in introducing new approaches of diagnosis to the treating physicians. Radiology should carefully guide and help the referring physicians to always perform the right study for each and every child. We should be able to answer following three essential questions for children that come to us: Why this disease, why this child and why now?

My focus for patient care, education and mentorship:
High end successful patient care, and advancement as well as discovery of new treatment options would not be possible without education and mentorship. I have travelled the world and have been very fortunate that I met many wise people who were willing to share their experience and knowledge with me. I see it as my obligation that I forward all I learned to the next generation. Mentorship is bidirectional, mentees learn from their mentors and vice versa. Education and mentorship makes us all better people. This is an absolute win-win situation.

My approach to research in pediatric radiology:
Research serves as one of the backbones of every academic institution. Without discoveries we cannot advance our understanding of diseases preventing development of successful treatment options. I strongly believe in radiology supported/initiated translational, multidisciplinary research. Radiology may discover diseases before they become clinically apparent, allows monitoring treatment options but may nowadays also take a leading role in recognizing the genetic basis of diseases.

My personal field of clinical and scientific expertise and interest: Pediatric Neuroradiology and Fetal Imaging
