Though born and raised in Houston, I attended Carleton College in Northfield, MN, where I earned a BA in Biology and developed a passion for both education and genetics. After graduating in 2022, I worked for two educational nonprofits dedicated to reducing educational inequity. At Breakthrough Houston, I supported high school students from underrepresented backgrounds as they navigated challenging coursework and prepared for college. At City Year Chicago, I served as a student mentor and teaching assistant, providing both academic support and social-emotional guidance. These experiences taught me the importance of empathy and tailoring communication to individual needs. Combined with my love for genetics, these lessons led me to pursue a career in genetic counseling. As a genetic counseling assistant, I saw firsthand the value of this profession in helping patients understand and cope with complex genetic information.

As a genetic counseling student, I am eager to expand my knowledge of genetics while continuing to build my skills in communication, advocacy, and empathy. My passion for education and commitment to addressing inequities remain central to my career goals. I hope to not only guide patients through their own genetic journeys but also to make genetics more accessible to all communities.
