Professional Statement

Dr. R. Mario Vera was raised in northern California and attended the University of California Davis for his undergraduate studies in Latin American history. After college he spent a year in Peru studying infectious disease in Lima, the Andean region, and the Amazon River basin. He returned to the University of California Davis School of Medicine for his medical degree which he obtained in 2008. He completed his general surgery residency at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University in 2013 and his fellowship in trauma and surgical critical care at the University of Tennessee in Memphis in 2014. His clinical and research interests are in trauma, emergency general surgery, and critical care. He has a strong commitment to teaching and mentorship of medical students and residents, especially those interested in general surgery and trauma.
