Dr. Rami Saed Al-Aref is an assistant professor of surgery in the Division of Trauma, Bariatric and Acute Care Surgery at ÌÇÐÄÊÓÆµ of Medicine. He is dual board certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care, with fellowship training in both Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery at Washington University in St. Louis. Following fellowship, he served on the surgical faculty at Washington University in St. Louis before joining Baylor. His clinical interests include abdominal wall reconstruction, abdominal wall rehabilitation, and surgical nutrition, complemented by broad expertise in trauma, emergency general surgery, and critical care. His research interests center on abdominal wall rehabilitation, hernia-specific outcomes, and the impact of nutritional status—including the role of micronutrients—on recovery in surgical patients. Through his integrated clinical practice and academic work, Dr. Al-Aref is committed to advancing surgical innovation and improving outcomes for patients with complex abdominal pathology.
