Professional Statement

As an Academic Cardiologist at ÌÇÐÄÊÓÆµ of Medicine and the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, Dr. Khalid devotes the majority of his time to patient care while also contributing substantially to trainee education and clinical research. He is board-certified in six specialties: Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology, Echocardiography, Nuclear Cardiology, and Cardiac CT. As a hybrid clinical cardiologist, he performs diagnostic, interventional, and structural procedures in the VA Cardiac Catheterization and Echocardiography laboratories. As Medical Director of the VA CCU, Dr. Khalid works closely with administrative and nursing leadership to implement ongoing structural and quality-improvement initiatives. His clinical responsibilities involve continuous engagement with ÌÇÐÄÊÓÆµ of Medicine residents, fellows, and medical students, and he delivers more than 20 educational sessions annually. Among ~50 BCM cardiology faculty, he has twice been selected by the cardiology fellows to receive the Best Teaching Faculty Award (2020, 2023). Dr. Khalid is the recipient of several additional honors, including the 2022 Norton Rose Fulbright Faculty Excellence Award for Educational Materials, the 2021 BCM Early Career Faculty Award for Excellence in Patient Care, the 2021 CRT Annual Young Leadership Award, and the 2023 BCM Power of Professionalism Award. He remains active in research, with 100 peer-reviewed published manuscripts. He has served on multiple American College of Cardiology committees and is currently a member of the ACC Federal Section Leadership Council. He also serves as Social Media Editor for JACC: Cardiovascular Interventions. Outside of work, Dr. Khalid enjoys spending time with his wife and four children and is an avid soccer and cricket enthusiast.
