In this program designed for STEM underrepresented students, I researched under Dr. Scott Harper who focuses on gene therapies for FSHD, a type of muscular dystrophy. My project involved optimizing synthetic miRNAs used to target DUX4, the gene responsible for FSHD that is over-expressed in patients.
