Professional Statement

My training in clinical health psychology inspires my primary research aim to improve behavioral health treatment access and engagement. Primary care settings have become the main mental health treatment settings for many. This presents clinicians with incredible opportunities to collaborate in interdisciplinary teams to improve the overall health of our patients. In order to make sure that patients initiate and continue treatment, it is imperative that clinicians have the skills to meet these needs. In order to do this we need to understand barriers and facilitators affecting treatment engagement, access, and outcomes. My research aims to do this by engaging with patients, clinicians, and clinic leaders to improve patient-provider communication and engage peer specialists in order to create patient-centered interventions that meets patients and providers where they are. My research has used a variety of mixed, qualitative, and quantitative methods to examine correlates and outcomes in topics including resilience, preventive health, smoking cessation, mental health treatment seeking, treatment initiation, engagement, and women's health.
