Professional Statement
Dr. Jessian Munoz is a specialist in high-risk pregnancies (also known as Maternal Fetal Medicine or Perinatology) with an additional subspecialty in Fetal Surgery. As a Fetal Surgeon, Dr. Munoz applies cutting-edge, evidence-based approaches to the care of fetuses with complex conditions that may be candidates for in utero (antenatal) surgery such as spina bifida, twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), twin anemia polycythemia sequence (TAPS), selective fetal growth restriction (sFGR), lower urinary tract obstruction (LUTO) and fetal anemia. He provides comprehensive care including prenatal care, pregnancy evaluation and delivery.
Dr. Munoz also has extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of complex placental disorders such as Placenta Accreta Spectrum (PAS). His research in PAS is internationally recognized and has led to the development of several protocols aimed at reducing maternal morbidity and mortality from PAS. He is currently part of the Texas Children’s Hospital multidisciplinary Placenta Accreta team.
In addition, Dr. Munoz serves key roles in both the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (SMFM). Dr. Munoz is fluent in Spanish and is a world-renowned lecturer in different international and meetings.
