Professional Statement
Aberrant cell death is a common thread that binds various human diseases such as ischemic injuries, degenerative diseases, many types of cancer, and aging. Further mechanistic detail of the cell death pathways during these disease states is needed to identify efficacious novel therapeutic targets to prevent or induce cell death as needed. Specifically, we are interested in defining the regulated necrotic cell death pathway that leads to cardiomyocyte death during an ischemic event.
