Projects

TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT FOR NONINVASIVE PRENATAL GENETIC DIAGNOSIS USING MATERNAL PERIPHERAL BLOOD
The goal of this study is to develop and validate a new risk-free prenatal diagnosis tool using only the maternal peripheral blood for the detection of clinically relevant genomic imbalance in the developing fetus.
CHARACTERIZATION OF THE ROLE OF MATERNAL EFFECT GENE NLRP2 IN REPRODUCTION
Maternal mutations in human NLRP7 cause recurrent hydatidiform molar (RHM) pregnancies with imprinting defects. Maternal mutations in a highly homologous gene NLRP2, cause multi-locus imprinting disorder (MLID) in offspring. Both disorders are associated with abnormal DNA methylation of maternally imprinted genes. Using Nlrp2 knock-out mouse and human embryonic stem cells models to study the mechanisms that cause the observed offsprings and placental abnormalities.
