Professional Statement
I-Chih Tan, Ph.D. assistant professor and director of the Center for Biomedical Engineering (formerly the Bioengineering Core) in the Department of Surgery, where he leads engineering design and fabrication initiatives that support a wide range of biomedical research applications.
Dr. Tan earned his Ph.D. from the University of Houston in 2007, specializing in areas that contributed to his multidisciplinary expertise in engineering and biomedical technology development. Following completion of his doctorate, he pursued a postdoctoral fellowship at ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ of Medicine beginning in 2008, further strengthening his foundations in research focused engineering and translational research. Dr. Tan will collaborate with investigators within the Department and across Baylor to develop customized engineering solutions that enable cutting edge scientific discovery and novel clinical applications.
In his current role, Dr. Tan’s work integrates engineering innovation with surgery and biomedical diagnostics. His professional interests include the design, prototyping, and testing of biomedical devices, particularly tools that advance medical interventions and experimental methods used in surgical research.
