Professional Statement

My work focuses on analyzing and improving the quality of clinical and surgical care in the field of retinal diseases. I am passionate about improving the quality of life for my patients by preserving and restoring their vision, but am also very interested in treating people on a larger scale. One way of doing so is by evaluating treatment outcomes across populations, and then identifying factors that contribute to excellent outcomes. I also specialize in the medical and surgical management of complex conditions including retinal detachment, epiretinal membrane, floaters, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy.

Skills

Repair of retinal detachment
A retinal detachment is when the retina is separated from its proper position, and can be potentially blinding if not treated urgently.
Treatment of macular edema
Macular edema is swelling of the retina and can occur due to diabetes, retinal vein occlusion, previous eye surgery, amongst other reasons. It is visually-threatening, but often can be treated.
Management of macular degeneration
Macular degeneration occurs commonly in patients over the age of 50, and is a leading cause of vision loss in the world. Fortunately, there has been significant progress in treatment options.
Management of diabetic retinopathy
Diabetic retinopathy can occur in anybody who has diabetes (high blood sugar). In its earliest form, the patient may not know that he/she has it. Therefore, it is critical that patients are evaluated annually to screen for this disease. When discovered early, blindness is largely preventable.
