Professional Statement

My research focuses on the molecular pharmacology of estrogen receptors, regulation of gene expression by transcriptional coactivators and corepressors, tamoxifen resistance in breast cancer, and steroid hormone action in breast and urothelial carcinomas. I have served as the director of the Tissue and Cell Culture Core in the Molecular and Cellular Biology department since 1994, with experience in culturing established cell lines, isolation of primary cell cultures, and development of 3D cell culture models, and have mentored 6 PhD students and 24 postdoctoral fellows in my laboratory.
My interest in graduate education began with various roles in the Molecular & Cellular Biology program, then as Associate Director of the Translational Biology & Molecular Medicine graduate program, followed roles in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences as Assistant Dean for Curriculum, Senior Associate Dean for Graduate Education & Academic Program Development, and my current role as Interim Dean. My interests lie in development of academic programs, assessment with the goal of enhancing program effectiveness, and creating an environment that supports the professional development of research students and postdoctoral fellows.
