Professional Statement
I recognize the fact that many questions in biology cannot be answered in their strictly cellular or organismal contexts, necessitating development of cell-free (in vitro) approaches. I have been always interested in understanding the intricacies of eukaryotic transcription regulation. I began my doctoral training in India by developing assays for ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling. Here at BCM, I developed cell-free assays to quantify enhancer-promoter communications and consequent transcription activation. I aim to employ these assays to further understand the proteomic dynamics at the enhancer-promoter contacts that result in actual transcriptional potentiation. Additionally, my work has provided evidence that different regions within a gene's coding and regulatory domains physically and dynamically interact during the gene's transcription. I aim to further understand how and why such interactions occur.
