Professional Statement

Dr. Adam Vogel is a board-certified pediatric surgeon and surgical intensivist. He completed his undergraduate studies in biomedical engineering at Northwestern University and received his medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. He completed his general surgery residency at the University of Chicago Medical Center where he received multiple teaching awards and was named administrative chief resident. During his residency, Dr. Vogel completed a pediatric surgery research fellowship in clinical and translational vascular anomalies at Boston Children鈥檚 Hospital. He received his fellowship training in pediatric surgery as well as surgical critical care at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.

Dr. Vogel has interest and expertise in all aspects of neonatal and pediatric general and thoracic surgery with a focus on complex gastrointestinal disease, endocrine disease, vascular anomalies, and pediatric trauma. He has a special clinical interest in the translation and application of minimally invasive and multidisciplinary techniques to solving complex surgical problems. As a surgical intensivist, he has a focus on the care of critically ill patients including those receiving extracorporeal life support (ECLS or ECMO) and those suffering from complex multisystem trauma. Dr. Vogel believes in proactive, compassionate, collaborative medical and surgical care involving patients, their families, and medical professionals.

Dr. Vogel鈥檚 research focuses on improving clinical outcomes in critically ill children. He investigates the use of viscoelastic monitoring techniques in goal-directed hemostatic resuscitation and massive transfusion to improve outcomes in severely injured patients. His research focuses on the impact of nutritional adequacy on outcomes and techniques for optimizing systemic anticoagulation and mechanical ventilation during ECLS. Dr. Vogel is an active participant in several multicenter collaborative research networks whose goal is to improve the care and outcomes of pediatric surgical patients.
