Fellows in the program come for training from various places in the country and the world. After graduation, most fellows are recruited to academic institutions.

Mary Clay Bailey, M.D.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry at Mississippi State University, where I first discovered my passion for genomics while working in the Hoffmann lab on a project focused on RAF oncogenes. That experience introduced me to the world of genomics, personalized medicine, and informatics; and it solidified my desire to integrate these interests into my career as a physician. After earning my medical degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center, I pursued anatomic and clinical pathology residency training at ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ of Medicine. I was drawn to Baylor for its outstanding education, supportive environment, and the opportunity to train at a large academic institution affiliated with world-class hospitals such as Texas Children’s Hospital. The breadth of in-house testing and access to cutting-edge technology made for an exceptional and well-rounded training experience. Choosing to continue at Baylor for fellowship was a natural decision, as the Molecular Genetic Pathology program here offers everything I value: a collegial environment, dedicated educators who are leaders in the field, diverse exposure to molecular diagnostic techniques, opportunities to participate in validation projects for our ever-growing test menu, and strong multi-disciplinary and multi-institutional collaborations that enhance both learning and patient care.
Fouad El-Dana, M.D.
I am from Beirut, Lebanon and finished my medical education there. I then moved to Houston in 2019 to work as a basic science researcher at MD Anderson Cancer Center in the Department of Leukemia. Understanding the genetic profile of acute myeloid leukemia first sparked my interest in molecular pathology. I then joined ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ of Medicine to complete my Anatomic and Clinical pathology residency training. Rotating in molecular pathology confirmed and solidified my early interest in the specialty. I chose to join the MGP program here at Baylor as it offers well-balanced comprehensive training opportunities in neoplastic and non-neoplastic conditions. Moreover, the program allows fellows to take the driver’s seat and be at the heart of the department’s daily operations. Perhaps most importantly, I value the connection I have established with my faculty mentors here as they have demonstrated time and again that they care for the career development of their trainees. In my spare time I enjoy riding my motorcycle, swimming outdoors, listening to music, and traveling around the world to satisfy my obsession with watching live Formula 1 racing.
