Message from the Program Director
The Neuromuscular Medicine Fellowship at ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ of Medicine is a comprehensive, one-year ACGME-accredited program designed to train physicians in the diagnosis and management of neuromuscular disorders across both adult and pediatric populations. Fellows will gain expertise in diagnosing and treating a wide range of neuromuscular disorders through a combination of clinical experience and procedural training. This includes the use of electromyography (EMG), nerve conduction studies, neuromuscular ultrasound, and interpretation of muscle and nerve biopsies as part of the diagnostic and management process.
Fellows rotate through multiple affiliates within the Texas Medical Center, including Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center, the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and Texas Children’s Hospital. These rotations provide exposure to a diverse patient population and a broad spectrum of neuromuscular conditions, such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), myasthenia gravis, muscular dystrophies, and peripheral neuropathies. Fellows also participate in multidisciplinary clinics, including two ALS clinics and two Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Care Center clinics, offering a rich experience in coordinated, team-based care.
In addition to clinical training, the fellowship offers structured didactic sessions, including lectures, case conferences, and journal clubs. Fellows are encouraged to engage in research projects and quality improvement initiatives, fostering a commitment to lifelong learning and advancement in the field of neuromuscular medicine. Graduates of the program will be well-prepared to pursue board certification in neuromuscular medicine and to assume leadership roles in academic or clinical settings.
