The Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center is committed to raising public awareness about cancer prevention and the importance of screening through public and professional education initiatives. The Community Outreach and Engagement program and the Office of Outreach and Health Disparities features an innovative Theater Outreach Program that uses theatrical performances to engage audiences and provide important cancer prevention education.
The Theater Outreach Program collaborates with community organizations to present evidence-based play and monologue performances to raise awareness about cancer prevention, screening (colorectal, cervical, and breast), clinical trials, and HPV vaccination. Each event features a guest physician or health educator who participates in a moderated Q&A session providing attendees with the opportunity to interact directly with a trained expert about cancer prevention. If you are interested in booking a performance, please review the following requirements:
- An anticipated audience of at least 30 individuals*
- At least an hour of allotted time
- An enclosed room with chairs for an audience with no distractions
- Audience participation in a brief survey following the performance
- The BCM Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center (BCM DLDCCC) logo must be included for any material used to promote the event created by the community partner
* We ask for 30+ audience members to comply with funding requirements

- Community Patient Navigators on-site to provide screening eligibility information
- Educational materials provided to audience members
